breastcompression-to increase milk supply & letdown?

The purpose of breast compression is to continue the flow of milk to the baby once the baby no longer drinks (open - pause - close type of suck) on his own. Can also be done during pumping sessions.

Breast compression simulates a letdown reflex and often stimulates a natural letdown reflex to occur.

Breast Compression- How to do it:

1. Hold the baby with one arm.

2. Hold the breast with the other, thumb on one side of the breast, your other fingers on the other, fairly far back from the nipple.

3. Watch for the baby's drinking, though there is no need to be obsessive about catching every suck. The baby gets substantial amounts of milk when he is drinking with an open - pause - close type of suck. (open - pause - close is one suck, the pause is not a pause between sucks).

4. When the baby is nibbling or no longer drinking with the open - pause - close type of suck, compress the breast. Not so hard that it hurts and try not to change the shape of the areola (the part of the breast near the baby's mouth). With the compression, the baby should start drinking again with the open - pause - close type of suck.

5. Keep the pressure up until the baby no longer drinks even with the compression, then release the pressure. Often the baby will stop sucking altogether when the pressure is released, but will start again shortly as milk starts to flow again. If the baby does not stop sucking with the release of pressure, wait a short time before compressing again.

6. The reason to release the pressure is to allow your hand to rest, and to allow milk to start flowing to the baby again. The baby, if he stops sucking when you release the pressure, will start again when he starts to taste milk.

7. When the baby starts sucking again, he may drink (open - pause - close). If not, compress again as above.

8. Continue on the first side until the baby does not drink even with the compression. You should allow the baby to stay on the side for a short time longer, as you may occasionally get another letdown reflex and the baby will start drinking again, on his own. If the baby no longer drinks, however, allow him to come off or take him off the breast.

Ahhh..at least now i know what i did before this that may have contribute to the low production and bad letdown during nursing & expressing..

One Boob Nurser-Boobs besar sebelah?

Ni something i copy dr Berkeley Parents Network...

ade sorang ibu ngadu her heart in the forum:

"Throughout my entire nursing experience one breast has always produced twice as much as the other. I am now weaning my 7 month old son and the breast that does not produce as much has completely shut down. The other is quite large compared to this, and it makes for a very uncomfortable situation. Has anyone ever had this problem? Will they eventually go back to the same size, and how long will that take? I am now expressing to relieve, not to empty. Lastly, I have noticed that the one that has shut down is now smaller than before I was preganant. Is that normal too? Thanks.
I had the same problem. Once I started solid foods I noticed a huge difference in breast size (left much larger than right) and production. It kept up until weaning at about 13 months. Then, both breasts got small again (only slightly larger than before pregnancy) and a bit droopier, unfortunately. But, they now (about 2 months later) seem to be exactly the same size. I've heard and read that this happens a lot. I can only answer the last part of the post -- yes, it's normal for some women to have smaller breasts after weaning, and as far as my experience goes, it is a permanent change. My doctor said that my body figured out how much breast tissue I need to support a nursing baby (not much, evidently, despite the fact that both my kids were extra big), and that's what I am left with. Took me a while to accept the grim truth that I have the same cup size now I had in 8th grade, but oh well. You probably won't stay lopsided, but I didn't have that particular experience. Don't fret; "

then ade mom replied

"it'll be okay
Wendy I had the same problem as you. DONT worry your breasts will go back to their normal size once you have weaned completely. June 2002"

then the reply continues

"Most of you are laughing right now, but I DO have a serious question if you'll read on...My right breast has always been a bit larger than my left, though the difference, I think, is visible only to my husband and myself. While I was breastfeeding my first child, however, the problem steadily worsened. After about six months I also noticed a difference in the milk supply. In a typical pumping session (which I did fewer than ten times per week) I would easily get 4+ ounces from the right side and only 2 from the left.

Around this time, I first introduced solid foods to the baby's diet, and though I continued nursing for nearly another year, I often worried that he was not getting enough of his calories from breast milk between 6 and 12 months -- he loved to eat, and showed less and less interest in nursing.

Now, with a newborn, I'm noticing the size difference again. I've only pumped a few times, just to get the baby accustomed to occasional bottles for my future convenience, and sometimes I get equal amounts. But sometimes, as before, the left side yields only half as much milk. I've also noticed that my baby sucks less vigorously on that side during afternoon feedings (nights and mornings seem fine).

Obviously, I'm bothered by the cosmetic issue here, but I'm also concerned that the problem led my first child to wean himself to solid foods too rapdily. Milk production is supposed to be a supply-demand process, I know, but I can't help worrying that my body was getting it wrong! Am I way off-base? This time around I've been starting every feeding on the left (low-producing) side in hopes that my very hungry baby will stimulate better production, but so far I see no improvement. Should I stick with this experiment, or might it cause other problems? It may also be relevant that I took Micronor while breastfeeding the first time. And what about the fact that I'm right-handed? I'm open to all theories and advice!"

then a mom replied

"Still hoping the problem's not obvious...
I have exactly the same bust as you. The difference has become more pronounced after breastfeeding my 2 children. My right breast fills my bra, while my left one leaves the material a little baggy. My right breast has much more breast tissue, and more lactating ducts, than my left. It fills up more that the left one, and always has more fore milk. The left one has more hind milk and sometimes my 22-month old seems to really enjoy the richer milk from it. Other times she seems to want the higher volume from the right. I also could pump twice the amount from the right than I could the left. Lot's of women have lopsided breasts. The only draw back for me is that I have never been a big milk-producer. I breastfed more frequently in order to keep my babies full when they were little. I gave up pumping earlier because I could not fill the bottles, but fortunately my supply kept up so that I could continue part-time nursing for quite awhile into their toddler years. I think you are doing fine as long as the babies are gaining weight. Don't worry about how much the babies are getting and just enjoy the nursing relationship for as long as you and your family wish to continue it."

then another mom replied too:

"Jeanne I too have a lopsided bustline accentuated by breastfeeding. And have twice the output of mm on the left side. I tried to increase my output on the right by nursing him more often on the right, similar to what you are doing, but to no avail. I pretty much gave up on that. I don't know about weaning since my son is 13 1/2 months has no indication that he wants to wean. It may just be what your first child was ready for, the second may be entirely different. Happy Nursing and Pumping.
Joelle with both of my kids (now 4 and 2), i had much more milk production from my right breast. this was noticeable only when i pumped. sometimes i would have twice the amount on the right side. however, when the baby was nursing, s/he didn't seem to have a preference for either side. both babies were healthy eaters and gained a respectable amount of weight. both kids were (practically) self-weaned ay 8-9 months which fit in fine with my schedule.

cosmetically, i think i am even. i am right-handed and therefore i carry the children on my left side (thus squishing my left breast) and maybe that inhibited milk production. i finally just chalked it up to being right-breast dominant. right breasted mama
I know that by the time you read this, it will have been a while since your original posting, but I just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. Like you, I have a lopsided bustline. My right breast is larger and produces way more milk than my left. I never noticed a size difference until I started nursing. My son is now almost 11 months old and is still nursing frequently.

I first noticed the difference pretty early on, and I checked with a lactation consultant to find out if it was normal. She reassured me that it was perfectly normal for one side to be bigger than the other. She said it would be more unusual for them to be perfectly even! So I hope that sets your mind at ease on that point.

As far as milk supply goes, I have kind of given up trying to get my left side to produce as much as my right. I make it a point to nurse on my left side as much as possible, so that I don't get completely noticibly uneven (particularly if I suspect that he's not super hungry, but just wants to suck.) Unfortunately, my son does not seem to fill up on that side the way he does on the right, so I end up nursing on the right more than I might like to. One thing that helps a little is to pump on the left but not the right. This increases the demand for the left side and stimulates the milk production. It doesn't completely solve the problem, but it helps."

and finally a mom said:

"Now, approching 20 months, both my breasts are approximately the same size again."

i ada rasa nak tambah..i pun sama camtu. breast kiri smaller (cam boob budak darjah 6 aje) tp the other one kalau tgh penuh its cup C. i guess that y each pumping session i can only get 5-6oz time low & time high 7-8oz aje..compare to moms with bigger boobs & both boobs funtioning well, they do produce more..ah...PEDULIK!! janji i can still produce susu cukup utk Miya udah kan?

no 1 really see my loopsided boobs except for hubby & he doesn't complain..i jugak tak pakai bikini..so takde org nak komen boob i lain macam...so PEDULIK!!

Foods in the freezer -- are they safe? Every year, thousands of callers to the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline aren't sure about the safety of items stored in their own home freezers. The confusion seems to be based on the fact that few people understand how freezing protects food. Here is some information on how to freeze food safely and how long to keep it.

What Can You Freeze?
You can freeze almost any food. Some exceptions are canned food or eggs in shells. However, once the food (such as a ham) is out of the can, you may freeze it.

Being able to freeze food and being pleased with the quality after defrosting are two different things. Some foods simply don't freeze well. Examples are mayonnaise, cream sauce and lettuce. Raw meat and poultry maintain their quality longer than their cooked counterparts because moisture is lost during cooking.

Is Frozen Food Safe?
Food stored constantly at 0 °F will always be safe. Only the quality suffers with lengthy freezer storage. Freezing keeps food safe by slowing the movement of molecules, causing microbes to enter a dormant stage. Freezing preserves food for extended periods because it prevents the growth of microorganisms that cause both food spoilage and foodborne illness.

Does Freezing Destroy Bacteria & Parasites?
Freezing to 0 °F inactivates any microbes -- bacteria, yeasts and molds - - present in food. Once thawed, however, these microbes can again become active, multiplying under the right conditions to levels that can lead to foodborne illness. Since they will then grow at about the same rate as microorganisms on fresh food, you must handle thawed items as you would any perishable food.

Trichina and other parasites can be destroyed by sub-zero freezing temperatures. However, very strict government-supervised conditions must be met. It is not recommended to rely on home freezing to destroy trichina. Thorough cooking will destroy all parasites.

Freshness & Quality
Freshness and quality at the time of freezing affect the condition of frozen foods. If frozen at peak quality, foods emerge tasting better than foods frozen near the end of their useful life. So freeze items you won't use quickly sooner rather than later. Store all foods at 0° F or lower to retain vitamin content, color, flavor and texture.

Nutrient Retention
The freezing process itself does not destroy nutrients. In meat and poultry products, there is little change in nutrient value during freezer storage.

Enzymes
Enzyme activity can lead to the deterioration of food quality. Enzymes present in animals, vegetables and fruit promote chemical reactions, such as ripening. Freezing only slows the enzyme activity that takes place in foods. It does not halt these reactions which continue after harvesting. Enzyme activity does not harm frozen meats or fish and is neutralized by the acids in frozen fruits. But most vegetables that freeze well are low acid and require a brief, partial cooking to prevent deterioration. This is called "blanching." For successful freezing, blanch or partially cook vegetables in boiling water or in a microwave oven. Then rapidly chill the vegetables prior to freezing and storage. Consult a cookbook for timing.

Packaging
Proper packaging helps maintain quality and prevent "freezer burn." It is safe to freeze meat or poultry directly in its supermarket wrapping but this type of wrap is permeable to air. Unless you will be using the food in a month or two, overwrap these packages as you would any food for long-term storage using airtight heavy-duty foil, (freezer) plastic wrap or freezer paper, or place the package inside a (freezer) plastic bag. Use these materials or airtight freezer containers to repackage family packs into smaller amounts. It is not necessary to rinse meat and poultry before freezing. Freeze unopened vacuum packages as is. If you notice that a package has accidentally been torn or has opened while food is in the freezer, the food is still safe to use; merely overwrap or rewrap it.

Freezer Burn
Freezer burn does not make food unsafe, merely dry in spots. It appears as grayish-brown leathery spots and is caused by air reaching the surface of the food. Cut freezer-burned portions away either before or after cooking the food. Heavily freezer-burned foods may have to be discarded for quality reasons.

Color Changes
Color changes can occur in frozen foods. The bright red color of meat as purchased usually turns dark or pale brown depending on its variety. This may be due to lack of oxygen, freezer burn or abnormally long storage.

Freezing doesn't usually cause color changes in poultry. However, the bones and the meat near them can become dark. Bone darkening results when pigment seeps through the porous bones of young poultry into the surrounding tissues when the poultry meat is frozen and thawed.

The dulling of color in frozen vegetables and cooked foods is usually the result of excessive drying due to improper packaging or over-lengthy storage.

Freeze Rapidly
Freeze food as fast as possible to maintain its quality. Rapid freezing prevents undesirable large ice crystals from forming throughout the product because the molecules don't have time to take their positions in the characteristic six-sided snowflake. Slow freezing creates large, disruptive ice crystals. During thawing, they damage the cells and dissolve emulsions. This causes meat to "drip"--lose juiciness. Emulsions such as mayonnaise or cream will separate and appear curdled.

Ideally, a food 2-inches thick should freeze completely in about 2 hours. If your home freezer has a "quick-freeze" shelf, use it. Never stack packages to be frozen. Instead, spread them out in one layer on various shelves, stacking them only after frozen solid.

Refrigerator - Freezers
If a refrigerator freezing compartment can't maintain zero degrees or if the door is opened frequently, use it for short-term food storage. Eat those foods as soon as possible for best quality. Use a free-standing freezer set at 0° F or below for long-term storage of frozen foods. Keep a thermometer in your freezing compartment or freezer to check the temperature. This is important if you experience power-out or mechanical problems.

Length of Time
Because freezing keeps food safe almost indefinitely, recommended storage times are for quality only. Refer to the freezer storage chart at the end of this document, which lists optimum freezing times for best quality.

If a food is not listed on the chart, you may determine its quality after defrosting. First check the odor. Some foods will develop a rancid or off odor when frozen too long and should be discarded. Some may not look picture perfect or be of high enough quality to serve alone but may be edible; use them to make soups or stews. Cook raw food and if you like the taste and texture, use it.

Safe Defrosting
Never defrost foods in a garage, basement, car, dishwasher or plastic garbage bag; out on the kitchen counter, outdoors or on the porch. These methods can leave your foods unsafe to eat.

There are three safe ways to defrost food: in the refrigerator, in cold water, or in the microwave. It's best to plan ahead for slow, safe thawing in the refrigerator. Small items may defrost overnight; most foods require a day or two. And large items like turkeys may take longer, approximately one day for each 5 pounds of weight.

For faster defrosting, place food in a leak proof plastic bag and immerse it in cold water. (If the bag leaks, bacteria from the air or surrounding environment could be introduced into the food. Tissues can also absorb water like a sponge, resulting in a watery product.) Check the water frequently to be sure it stays cold. Change the water every 30 minutes. After thawing, cook immediately.

When microwave-defrosting food, plan to cook it immediately after thawing because some areas of the food may become warm and begin to cook during microwaving.

Refreezing
Once food is thawed in the refrigerator, it is safe to refreeze it without cooking, although there may be a loss of quality due to the moisture lost through defrosting. After cooking raw foods which were previously frozen, it is safe to freeze the cooked foods. If previously cooked foods are thawed in the refrigerator, you may refreeze the unused portion.

If you purchase previously frozen meat, poultry or fish at a retail store, you can refreeze if it has been handled properly.

Cooking Frozen Foods
Raw or cooked meat, poultry or casseroles can be cooked or reheated from the frozen state. However, it will take approximately one and a half times the usual cooking time for food which has been thawed. Remember to discard any wrapping or absorbent paper from meat or poultry.

When cooking whole poultry, remove the giblet pack from the cavity as soon as you can loosen it. Cook the giblets separately. Read the label on USDA-inspected frozen meat and poultry products. Some, such as pre-stuffed whole birds, MUST be cooked from the frozen state to ensure a safely cooked product.

LOOK FOR THE USDA OR STATE MARK OF INSPECTION

Poultry Seal

The inspection mark on the packaging tells you the product was prepared in a USDA or State-inspected plant under controlled conditions. Follow the package directions for thawing, reheating, and storing.

Power Outage in Freezer
If there is a power outage, the freezer fails, or if the freezer door has been left ajar by mistake, the food may still be safe to use. As long as a freezer with its door ajar is continuing to cool, the foods should stay safe overnight. If a repairman is on the way or it appears the power will be on soon, just don't open the freezer door.

A freezer full of food will usually keep about 2 days if the door is kept shut; a half-full freezer will last about a day. The freezing compartment in a refrigerator may not keep foods frozen as long. If the freezer is not full, quickly group packages together so they will retain the cold more effectively. Separate meat and poultry items from other foods so if they begin to thaw, their juices won't drip onto other foods.

When the power is off, you may want to put dry ice, block ice, or bags of ice in the freezer or transfer foods to a friend's freezer until power is restored. Use an appliance thermometer to monitor the temperature.

When it is freezing outside and there is snow on the ground, it seems like a good place to keep food until the power comes on; however, frozen food can thaw if it is exposed to the sun's rays even when the temperature is very cold. Refrigerated food may become too warm and foodborne bacteria could grow. The outside temperature could vary hour by hour and the temperature outside will not protect refrigerated and frozen food. Additionally, perishable items could be exposed to unsanitary conditions or to animals. Animals may harbor bacteria or disease; never consume food that has come in contact with an animal.

To determine the safety of foods when the power goes on, check their condition and temperature. If food is partly frozen, still has ice crystals, or is as cold as if it were in a refrigerator (40 °F), it is safe to refreeze or use. It's not necessary to cook raw foods before refreezing. Discard foods that have been warmer than 40 °F for more than 2 hours. Discard any foods that have been contaminated by raw meat juices. Dispose of soft or melted ice cream for quality's sake.

Frozen Cans
Accidentally frozen cans, such as those left in a car or basement in sub-zero temperatures, can present health problems. If the cans are merely swollen -- and you are sure the swelling was caused by freezing -- the cans may still be usable. Let the can thaw in the refrigerator before opening. If the product doesn't look and/or smell normal, throw it out. DO NOT TASTE IT! If the seams have rusted or burst, throw the cans out immediately, wrapping the burst can in plastic and disposing the food where no one, including animals can get it.

Frozen Eggs
Shell eggs should not be frozen. If an egg accidentally freezes and the shell cracked during freezing, discard the egg. Keep an uncracked egg frozen until needed; then thaw in the refrigerator. It can be hard cooked successfully but other uses may be limited. That's because freezing causes the yolk to become thick and syrupy so it will not flow like an unfrozen yolk or blend very well with the egg white or other ingredients.

news on one of my fav baby..

Brad Pitt recently revealed to Oprah that his 2-year-old daughter, Shiloh, has developed a small quirk - wanting to be called John instead of Shiloh!

She only wants to be called John. John or Peter. So it’s a Peter Pan thing,” he says. “So we’ve got to call her John. ‘Shi, do you want …’ – ‘John. I’m John.’ And then I’ll say, ‘John, would you like some orange juice?’ And she goes, ‘No!’ So, you know, it’s just that kind of stuff that’s cute to parents, and it’s probably really obnoxious to other people.”

Brad also shared that juggling six kids requires careful planning and definitely seems to eliminate any hope of any quick outing,

“We don’t go to the mall. It’s like a half-an-hour just to get everyone buckled in and make sure they’ve got their snacks, and Z.Z. [Zahara, 3 1/2] has got a blanket and Shiloh’s got her silky,” he says.

Luckily, partner Angelina is “militant about it. She’s right on top of it. Thank God, because I’m always forgetting something.”

Brad also added that his kids are “the funniest people I’ve ever met. And you know it really tells you — it’s a great mirror for yourself. It really tells you a lot about yourself and who you are and how you react to things,” he goes on. “They make me better. They make me a better person as a father.”

The Oprah interview airs tomorrow, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is out Christmas day. In addition to Shiloh and Zahara, Brad is dad to Maddox, 7, Pax, 5 this month, and 4-month-old twins Knox and Vivienne.

*truthfully, i teringin sgt nak ade anak ramai..maybe 5 biological & the rest nak amil anak angkat(nak cari anak org susah, with or without parent)...and i want to breastfeed them all..

some good habit before BF or expressing

"Have a cookie before breast-feeding, mom? Eating special cookies enriched with conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) can increase the level of these potentially healthful fatty acids in breast milk, reports a recent study in the journal Nutrition Research."

Dietary Sources of CLA?

"Of all foods, kangaroo meat may have the highest concentration of CLA.[18] Food products (e.g. mutton and beef) from grass-fed ruminants are good sources of CLA, and contain much more of it than those from grain-fed animals.[19] In fact, meat and dairy products from grass-fed animals can produce 300-500% more CLA than those of cattle fed the usual diet of 50% hay and silage, and 50% grain.[20]

Eggs are also rich in CLA, and it has been shown that CLA in eggs survives the temperatures encountered during frying.[21]" quite wikipedia...

hmm...pas ni try makan biskut aa b4 pam of BFing..

as for me, my habit before expressing breastmilk, i akan have a nice cup of hot drink with 3sudu oats. i drink around 30mins before nak pegi pam susu. i feel more relaxed & time pam tu kurang skit rasa dahaga or rasa kebas2/ketar2 tgn..

soon i'll post a topic on benda2 yg i cuba & betul2 bykkan susu..now tgh sebarut ni.....

Bloody 6th Month Slump

I baca on breastfeeding international forums, ramai moms face.. "six month slump" ….as if there were something magical going on at that age that will make it impossible for you to ever pump enough milk.
Lemme intro about this curse of the 6th month slump:
“Hormonal changes: For a lot of pumping moms, the stimulation of the pump isn't quite enough to keep you from ovulating and having periods anymore. These hormonal changes sometimes cause a little supply dip right before your period.”

HUH? WTF! WTH!! Ovulating..itu bukan benda baru for me..I’ve been ovulation each month ever since I gave birth. Tapi bulan ni special..i got 2 period!! Menses dating 2 kali..last week..then stop a few days and now sambung lg..

Yes my susu drop…on the 12th & 13th Nov, my milk was aa ok..even I can say that the kilang is in good production..each pumping session I can get 6oz.

But things go bad on 14th Nov 08....miya had her 1st taste of formula milk. I felt a little crushed, but then I pujuk diri.. “its ok, miya dah mula makan..anggap la formula milk ni sama cam bg miya makan solid..its just complimentary feeding..bigger part of her diet is still mama’s breastmilk.”

What I’m doing to solve this…I took double dose of fenugreek, calcium tablet & multivitamins on Friday & Saturday, but seems to have no effect..so start on Sunday afternoon, I took Maxolon. And today it can see my milk production is recovering. The other food i take as usual la..high protein, lots of oats...good drinks...

We pray that she doesn’t have to drink anymore of the formula milk and I don’t have to rely on it as if the tin susu is my bestfriend.

*this is the 2nd time I took medication to increase breastmilk. The 1st time I domperidone, when uncle mi passed away. I never tot I have to resort to this method ever again..

Miya's snacks

Since the "china milk scandal"..i try to be very careful in buying babyfood products..even i nak beli biskut for myself pun takut2..

so far i found only biskut "baby bites-brand TAKE ONE" perisa chicken vege & original aje yg selamat. yg perisa carrot tu mmg sah ade product tenusu & byk kementerian kesihatan kata its not safe (Msia, Brunei & even china sendiri).

the other products for rusk, i still tak berani nak beli.

anyway, y i chose this biskut..it melts in mouth(no risk of choking)..takde rasa manis or masin..and the biskut is rice crackers yg baked not fried. also, i can just soluble this in my breastmilk & give to miya..so kinda ok for darurat food during travel.

what do you moms think?

*EDIT - 14th Nov 08 8:03 pm - Went to Bangsar nak beli Miya's biskot and checked the content on Baby Bites product. Only Chicken Vege does not have milk in the ingredient. I guess have to stay away from the Original and Carrot flavoured ones

Miya’s 2nd week of semi solid food

Saturday

Miya makan carrot kurma for breakfast..then for lunch mama dia masakkan memacam..mama dia ni species pre-prep food & freeze. Apa yg mama miya masak?

1) bubur peas+nasik+olive oil & garlic--high in protein, carbo, good fat & antibacterial dr garlic.

i rebus beras 2sudu sampai kembang& then masukkan peas 3 sudu. bila peas dah empuk. matikan api..

dlm another frying pan. 1-2sudu besar olive oil tumis 2ulas bwg..them bila naik wangi, masuk dlm rebusan td..then blend

2) potato salad.

rebus sebijik potato yg dah peeled & diced, bila empuk padam & blend skali dgn air rebusan. masukkukan grated carrot & peas yg di lecek(dah rebus sampai empuk & kupas kulit). then gaulkan semua bahan. cantik warna warni. Do add on a tablespoon or unsalted butter or margarine.. penambah perisa gitu..lemak2.

3)apple puree/sauce

2bijik apple merah, peeled & buang bijik. Masuk dlm periuk with just enough filtered water to cover buah. Then rebus sampai empuk. Then I blend it. After that I tapis, air dia I buat jus for miya minum along with meals. The fiber all I buat as puree as main meal..

all of these food, I tub them dlm bekas BPA free..small tub yg ade arrow symbol number 5. when the food still hot berasap, I tub them & terus masuk freezer..with this I know its not contaminated & lesser risk of microorganisms to break free.

Bila nak makan, I just masuk dlm microwave seminit & bila siap, I stir well (I guna sudu yg boleh tukar warna tu..so I know if the meal is too hot for anak). The thing about heating dlm microwave, wajib stir well coz heating in it akan create hot spots..ade part yg tetibe panas giler & ade part yg still sejuk gedi.

Another option to heat the food..if u store food dlm bekas avent via storage or bekas dadih..it is safe for u you heat it in the food warmer. Cam I guna warmer snow bear. So put at heat 70degree for 5-10mins..cukup panas utk anak.

MIYA LOVE THEM ALL..it really makes my effort worth while.

Miya’s 1st week of semi solid food

Friday (24/10/2008-I cuti coz my besday)

How the Body Works : Milk Let Down

EBM intake amount

Do ibu2 di luar sana tau the actual, proper amount of Breast milk intake utk anak tu actually depends on the age and weight of that baby.?

Here is a chart for babies under six months. Ni untuk anak2 yg fully BF & minum EBM, tanpa minum other liquid or makan solid. I read dlm buku Dr. Marriam Stoppard, something about for every extra 500g baby gain, kena increase susu by another 0.5oz..then I surf, I found an average calculation made by the lady in www.workandpump & also kellymom.

the one in bold in the chart was miya's last amount of feeding before she was introduced to solid. she was only 6.5kg at 5months.

tambahan info to vege puree video

cara ni also can use for brokoli, kcg peas..or mix all of them, then blend emm..utk lebih elok, masukkan garlic oil before blend.

camne buat garlic oil? tumis 3ulas bwg dgn olive oil or butter, 2-3tbspoon.

the oil akan tolong anak serap nutri dlm makanan & also melawas kan poop.

garlic as perisa & also antibiotik..

ni sesuai tuk baby 6months old where tak introduce animal protein lg to them.

what is vulgarity?

indicent nye:

my posting in forum susu ibu.com..i said

br jumpa doc (penal opis ni la). 1st time jumpa doctor tu, not feeling well..maybe recover dr flu punye pasal.

tetibe dia temuramah panjang..siap citer pasal my weight & family history..tetibe dia kata esok dtg suh buat blood test, complete skali dgn test for tumor..

WTF!! test for tumor?

dia kata its weird for me to lose significant amount of weight eventho i am BFing.

suspen suspen..

yg makin sakit hati, blk dr clinic..told my opis manager pasal the docs diognose, the manager leh suh i stop BFing..katanye takut nnt pass ape2 pada anak..cam la bleh pass cancer cell thru milk..(mamanye dah pass cancer gen kat anak, sejak dr dlm perut lg..)

then some1 replied:

Hi!

Sory...what is 'WTF!!'...World TaeKwonDo Federation?!?

then i replied:

opps..sori termencarut kat sini...tgh emo dgn recommendation doctor smlm..actually tgh takut..but i think i'll do all the test. baik tau dr tak tau..also kalau tumor, bukan cancer cell takpe la..

then she replied:

Bagus lah if mama-miya dah perasan.

To swear or mencarut in 'open forum' mcm ni is a BIG NO-NO!!
Especially dlm web SI yg tujuannya begitu murni & luhur ini..

Rasanya..kalau nak di bandingkan..lebih besar salahnya if compare dgn new members yg dok create topic2 baru tu..yg members di SI ni dok bising hari2 & dok up kan topic tu without fail each day.

So..Elok la if selepas buat draft, kita baca balik..& if perlu edit..edit kan cepat2 before mommies lain quote kan apa kita tulis..

Just my humble advice..

TQ

then it suddenly hit me..damn it..i forgot the kind of people that i'm dealing with. they are not the type of people that say FUCK like fish in the water..(like me, skin elly and bitch aka kakak kesayanganku iaitu mak kepada incredible sarah-hulk)..so mesti they think its kasar..shimata...tetibe rasa tak sedap hati....but then again..who cares..any of my friend yg rajin read my blog & nak post here..u r free to swear & mencarut..hahahha

also additional info: swearing takkan kurangkan susu, tp benda2 negatip yg boleh mengganggu emosi mmg boleh jejaskan susu ibu...i slalu kalau tetibe ade benda yg kena tegur kat SI.com atau ade posting yg i tak suka kat SI.com,mesti susu i tetibe kurang..maybe its STRESS?

i think ni antara faktor y ramai mom out there black list susuibu.com..tak ramai org kat luar sana bebal cam i tahan teguran online..ramai mesti merajuk terus!!

MOM?

how to know your baby is ready for solid food?

miya is now 6months, but i started her on solid at 5mo3wks.

surely after baca line tu, ramai moms out there (yg gung-ho bf) akan kata WTF!!

lemme summarize what i found from my studies:

"Developmental Readiness of Normal Full Term Infants to Progress from Exclusive Breastfeeding to the Introduction of Complementary Foods"

sebelum bg anak makan or sebelum berniat nak BF ni, kena paham reason y experts suh fully BF anak for 6months. antara reason dia:

-nak kena fully understand the "Immune System Development in Relation to the Duration of Exclusive Breastfeeding" (lg lama exclusive on BF ni, lesser risk develop benda2 pelik)
-apa kaitannye Gastrointestinal Development in Relation to the Duration of Exclusive Breastfeeding?(adakah perut anak tu cukup kuat..anak2 yg minum infant formula mesti kuat skit coz dia dah reti handle melamine..huhuhu..lawak bodo aje ni)
-Infant Oral Motor Development in Relation to the Duration of Breastfeeding (ni nak check connection otak & organ cernaan ni dah leh bekerja sama tak?)
-Maternal Reproductive and Lactational Physiology in Relation to the Duration of Breastfeeding.

my logic sense y the experts or kementerian kesihatan suh tunggu gak 6bulan, coz tak ramai parents out there tau cara nak test si anak punye readiness to start makan.

so how i tested & confirm yg anak dah ready, eventho dia belum 6bulan..i:

-pastikan dia leh duduk sendiri tanpa support dr org & dia leh angkat pala sendiri and pandang merata2 tempat. (meaning dia punye badan & saluran tu ok. so nnt dia takde la tercekik sebab makanan tokleh lalu elok2)
-anak ade gaya menguyah2 (tgk dia kunyah air liur tak bila tgk adult makan)
-anak mula tak cukup dgn minum susu saje. cam miya, slalunye dia minum 5-6bottle of 5oz(every2hrs) time i kat opis. then suddenly dia mula nak minum every 1hour..kalau minum setiap 2jam, she will drink 7-8oz. so from there kita tau dia perlukan extra calories.

and lastly

-Losing the "extrusion reflex." To keep solid food in his mouth and then swallow it, your baby needs to stop using his tongue to push food out of his mouth. How i tested this? sejak miya 5bulan, seminggu 2-3kali, i try bg EBM guna sudu. memula dia tolak2..then finally dia kemam & telan..SO CONFIRM dia DAH READY!!

so what i fed her:

1st day..blended rice porridge with breastmilk..she ate 1 tablespoon
2nd day..blended rice porridge with breastmilk & kurma..she ate alot
3rd day..carrot+kurma puree with breatmilk..she ate lot a lot..

and the rest is history...

now my fridge mula penuh dgn pre-prep & frozen food (frozen according to FDA std).
